Apalachicola City Commission to Hold Adaptation Plan Workshop December 2

November 20, 2025

The City of Apalachicola will host a workshop on Tuesday, December 2 at 5 pm to preview recommendations from the City’s draft Adaptation Action Plan which outlines strategies for dealing with potential vulnerabilities to the City’s critical assets during storm events.  The adaptation plan follows the 2025 Vulnerability Assessment (VA) in which the Exposure and Sensitivity Analyses identified specific focus areas and critical infrastructure most vulnerable to storm events. 

Apalachicola’s Adaptation Plan is the City’s next step toward mitigating challenges experienced from storm flooding and projected surge and sea level rise. The plan provides a framework to respond to the findings in the Vulnerability Analysis and incorporates recommended infrastructure improvements, policy revisions and public engagement programs.

FWC Apalachicola Bay Endorsement Application Assistance

November 11, 2025

Need help applying for your Commercial Apalachicola Bay Endorsement?

Beginning January 1, 2026, the Apalachicola Bay oyster fishery will reopen to commercial and recreational harvest. An Apalachicola Bay (AB) Endorsement is required for commercial oyster harvest from the bay. The Apalachicola Bay Permit (AP) will no longer be issued.

Qualifications for the AB Endorsement for the January 2026 season:

  • Individual or Crew Saltwater Products License (SPL) holder
  • Shellfish (BV) Endorsement holder
  • Florida resident
  • Legal commercial wild oyster landings from Apalachicola Bay between 2012 and 2020

All qualified applicants could receive the AB Endorsement for the January 2026 season. The AB Endorsement can be renewed. The number of AB Endorsements issued for the January 2026 season will set the cap on participation for future seasons.

Apply online for the AB Endorsement at www.MyFWC.com/CLS. Applications will be accepted between November 10, 2025, and December 16, 2025.

If you need help with the application, FWC Staff will be at the FDACS Apalachicola Shellfish Center (260 Dr. Frederick S. Humphries Street, Apalachicola, FL 32320) from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on these dates:

  • November 12–14
  • November 17–21
  • November 24–25

  • December 15–16

Your Voice Matters-Help Shape the Future of Our City!

The City of Apalachicola would like to host a City-wide listening session where the City Manager, Chuck Anderson, and other City Representatives will meet with residents to hear their thoughts, concerns, and ideas on local issues. This is an informal, dialogue-focused event designed to be a safe space for genuine conversation. The goal is for the new City Manager to gather feedback to better understand the community’s needs and challenges, which will be used to shape future policies and improve city services. Residents can provide valuable, lived-experiences information about specific city services, and help identify areas needing immediate attention. The Commissioners will be attending as well.

Why is the City hosting Listening Sessions?

We would like the residents to share their personal experiences, ideas, and give feedback in a welcoming, accessible environment. The City has new staff and we would like to find out what is working well, what needs improvement, and the key issues residents are facing.

Insights gathered will help the City leaders determine which challenges and opportunities should be prioritized, ensuring that policies and initiatives align with what residents care about.

The City of Apalachicola Board of Supervisors are preparing to carry out a Wells Rehabilitation Project CDBG-DR No: M0016 construction project through the use of Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds. In the implementation of this project the following job types may be available: Painter, Laborer (Common or General), Laborer (Pipelayer), Operator (Backhoe/Excavator), Operator (Bulldozer), Operator (Loader), Truck Driver (Includes 4 axel, Distributor, Dump, Lowboy and Tandem Trucks), Welders.

All job openings will be posted in the Human Resources Department at the City of Apalachicola City Hall, 192 Coach Wagoner Blvd Apalachicola, Fl 32320 and at the primary construction site. To the greatest extent feasible, employment and training positions will be made available to qualified persons who permanently reside in the City of Apalachicola, Florida. Additionally, to the greatest extent feasible, construction contracts and sub-contracts may be awarded to businesses located in and owned by persons residing in Franklin County. Welcome to Apalachicola!

Our beautiful city is one of the oldest port cities in the state of Florida. Established in 1831, Apalachicola boosts a rich and unique past. Glimpses of that by-gone era can still be viewed today through our charming shops, inviting parks, historic museums and acclaimed restaurants serving fresh locally-caught seafood. Additional maritime life is evident through picturesque Scipio Creek which flows into a vast ecosystem where the vital Apalachicola River meets the Apalachicola Bay, creating a natural and pristine estuary that eventually flows into the Gulf of Mexico.

This special place I call home is truly a gem and I am honored to serve as its first female mayor, a position I do not take lightly. As mayor, I am tasked with serving my fellow residents, working alongside my friends, and being an ambassador for our visitors. These are roles I eagerly embrace for I am proud to be a representative of such a remarkable city.

The name “Apalachicola” is said to mean . . . “land of friendly people.” Living and working together with my fellow Apalachicolians, I can completely vouch for the accuracy of that label and as our city continues to grow and prosper, it is my desire that the same inviting charm that intrigued you to live, work, play and visit here, will seep into your spirit and keep you here.
